Are you ready for 2011?

December always feels like a blur to me with Christmas parties, New Year's eve celebrations and many birthdays in between but 2010 had whooshed by me and it was always the case of "so much I want to do and not enough time to do it all" and now there's only one more day to go and I must say, the 'To Do' list is piling up! DOH!

One task on the 'To Do' list is the monthly wallpaper downloads and thankfully, I just received a gentle reminder today for January's wallpaper. Being preoccupied with tomorrow night's celebration in welcoming the New Year, that did slip my mind so I got down to work on it straight away and created is now ready for download, just click here! I hope you like it and I hope you have a bright, happy and a wonderful year in 2011!! :D

Cherishing precious moments...

I wasn't sure whether to post this but I know for some of you who asks about Walter, he has a special place in your thoughts...

In the past few months, Walter has been unwell, he started to get seizures, though infrequently over the past few months, he deteriorated rapidly during the last few days. A couple of days ago, he had an MRI scan and is diagnosed with brain tumor. The tumor is fairly large and is right in the middle of his brain which makes it extremely difficult and risky to remove. Currently, he's on medication to reduce the inflammation of his brain and seizures...he's a little unsteady on his feet but is still alert, still very greedy for food (especially chicken his favourite) and thankfully not experiencing any pain except for hubby and I.

We're thankful to our family and friends for their support and to those who has contacts with vet and neurologist trying to help us find a solution. We've been advised to not get our hopes up so for now, we can only continue to give him a good quality of life and cherish every waking moment we have left with our beautiful boy who has given us so much love and joy over the past 5 and a half years. We are grateful for each day that he is still with us and try to make the most of on that note, it's time for his favourite part of the day, walkies to the park but he'll have to enjoy the fresh air and scenery from within a pram for now...

*:: PEANUT'S HAT ::*

I've had a few requests asking for Peanut's hat knit pattern so that you can give your Peanut elephant a hat too so here it is :-

I'd made up the pattern myself and this is what I did...
I used 2 and 3/4 size needles and baby wool.
Cast on 68 stitches, work 6 rows garter stitch. Change to stocking stitch and work 35 rows.
This will give you a long rectangle shape. Fold the rectangle piece in half and sew the edges together to make a square hat.
Attach a bell to one corner of the hat and stitch the other corner of the hat to the center of the hat and whoa la!! :D

❤ getting inspiration ❤

I've not had much excuse to really put a lot of effort into decorating a cake until now. The fun for me has always been the eating part but I do appreciate beautifully decorated cakes and cupcakes! A friend's birthday is coming up this weekend and I thought it would be more special to bake her a cake rather than buying one this year! Well...will let their taste buds decide I think! hehe
I have an idea of how I want to decorate it, it's going to be a Japanese cotton soft cheesecake which is nice and light. Will fill it with light whipped cream and strawberries...colour theme ~ white, pink and red! :D

I've been trolling through flickr to get some inspiration and boy there are some really yummy looking cakes out there and home made too!! Not sure if mine will look as professional...okay, I KNOW it won't look as professional but I do hope it will look scrumdiddlyumptious and pretty too. Will post and let you know!! wish me luck! =D

*:: I'm inspired ::*

I love quilts!! The last time I made one was for a project in high school and I've been wanting to make another one for donkey years but I know it will take me almost forever to finish one with my current hectic schedule, a balancing act between JLB, family and chores.

There's something about them...perhaps it's knowing the many hours spent and much love that's been poured into making a quilt that makes them so special!!

I stumbled upon this gorgeous quilt by wisecraft who created this beautiful piece of work. I love it even more because it's created from "Emma's baby clothes"!! Recycling and quilting to me is like tea and scones, they work so well together. I'm so totally inspired, are you???

Jennylovesbenny turned 7 in October and although, Jenny Bear with her furry friends and I did have a tea party in October, we never really celebrated the special occasion. I'm sure the bears will be happy about that, any excuse to eat cake!

Another year flown by and I'll like to say THANK YOU!!! Jennylovesbenny has certainly grown over the years and it still always brightens my day to learn my bears bring smiles and joy to you. THANK YOU for taking the time to read my blog, for your lovely emails and comments and for your support. THANK YOU to all Jennylovesbenny mums and dads for adopting my furry babies and to everyone who's created their own Jennylovesbenny Bears from my patterns and sharing your creations with me! From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely THANK YOU!

Please meet my little chickadee chick "Kikki", hatched during a night of pelting rain and woke up to a light drizzle this morning. I quickly made her a headscarf to keep her dry as she's very eager to go out and play in the rain. One would have mistaken her for a duckling instead! LOL
Kikki is now looking for a new home, please visit my shop for more photos of Kikki and adoption details. It's still raining in Melbourne but it's lovely! Hope you're having a great day wherever you are :D

Let's recycle!

It's gloomy today, there are signs of hail and it's pouring down with rain. I do LOVE this kind of weather and when I'm cooped up inside, there's no better time to create and I'm not talking about bears either! I've decided to make my own postage bags using recycle plastic bags...some of you may even receive them in the mail as I've packaged the little Twinkee bears in them!! :D

I do like the idea of recycling not to mention how much fun it can be!! Here I've used recycle plastic Australia post bags to create my own JLB packaging. I've also created a little tutorial if you too would like to have some fun recycling and making your own post bags! :D

Here we go....

Step 1. I've used plastic Parcel post bags from Australia post and turned them inside out. Bear in mind, the completed size of the bag will be halved. Instead of Parcel post bags, you can use ordinary shopping bags too.

Step 2. Get 2 to 3 extra shopping bags, lay them out neatly one on top of the other and cut the handles and the bottom of the bags.

Step 3. Open up the sides of the shopping bags you've just cut and lay them flat on the table, one on top of the other. Place the inside out Parcel post bag on top of the shopping bags and fold the other half on top as shown below. The Parcel post bags should be half the size of the shopping bags if not, you can use one shopping bag under and one above the parcel post bag to cover it.

Step 4. Place plastic bags in between a piece of large tissue paper or wax paper and iron. I've used tissue paper in this case. If you are using tissue paper, the tissue paper will be stuck to the plastic, if you are using wax paper, the wax paper will peel away from the plastic. This gives you different affects and outcome.

Step 5. Iron the paper over the plastic bags. You will notice the plastic will melt straight away and may be bit wrinkly but that's okay, it gives character!! :D
Go over it a few times with the iron to make sure the plastic has melted together. Do be careful not to touch the paper straight away as it is VERY HOT!! Let it cool a bit before handling further.
Important Note: I've set my iron to high and have also placed a tea towel over my iron board. Depending on your iron, you may not need such a high setting. The tea towel is to make sure I don't get any plastic on my iron board. Be careful and make sure that the tissue or wax paper is large enough to cover the plastic on both sides and that you are ironing on top of the paper and not the plastic bags as the bags will melt onto you iron and will cause a mess to your iron!

Step 6. Your ironed paper should look something like this (below)!

Step 7. Fold paper in half and use a sewing machine or hand stitch the sides together. Remember to keep on side open to put your treasures in then sew and seal. To give it a little more character, you may want to sew using different colour threads and use craft scissors and cut the ends.

So, there you have it, our little online fun craft session!! Hope you have lots of fun and let those creative juices flow!! :D
